Summer Sounds June 2010
Summer is here! And for those of you not out of school yet, get a taste of summer with this new mix with fun songs for the summer. This is one of the first nu-disco-esque mixes I've ever done. Some of you may ask, why not play the harder stuff? Well, to be honest, as much as I love the deep, dark, and filthy sounds of fidget etc, I feel that the tracks on this mix cater more to the sounds that people associate with summer. The mix is pretty straight forward, with some old sounds and some new. Watch out for the killer from Figure that ends the mix, it's one of the most evil basslines I've heard to date. I'm going to try to come out with a mix for every month of summer, so this is hopefully the first of three. I will leave you with a parting quote to live by this summer:
"Time is never wasted when you're wasted all the time"
- Late of the Pier // Space And The Woods (Switch remix)
- PeaceTreaty // Funk In Da Ganja
- Late of the Pier // Focker (Boys Noize Terror Remix)
- Klaxons // Gravity's Rainbow (Van She Remix)
- Urchins & Spoek // Tickets (Blatta & Inesha Remix)
- Miike Snow // Silvia (Felix Da Housecat Remix)
- DeeLux // Hot Hot Hot (Wideboys Mix)
- Public Enemy // Night Of The Living Bassheads (Figure Remix)

The Theory of Sound
Have you ever been at a party before, red cup in hand, standing and catching up with your friends all to the cringe of a $50 stereo with blown out speakers and no bass playing rap from 2 years ago? Well, I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that if you have attended a college recently (lets say the last 10 years), then you have for sure experienced this once. And once is one time too many. Now I'll give you a little weapon in this war against horrible party music. I call this, "The Theory of Sound". From the hard hitting sounds of Cold Blank and Fake Blood all the way to the killer bass of Bangkok, this mix will keep the kids dancing and the rap off the stereo. Anyways, I present to you, "The Theory of Sound".

Dirt & Filth

Dirt & Filth, what can I say, I had no idea what I was thinking. People who talk to me a lot know that I like to be very creative, with my word choices in describing music. And ladies and gentlemen, I think I hit the nail on the head with this one.
Dirt, the first in this two-part mix, presents a techno sound. The first tracks have a gritty yet harmonious tone to them, all leading up to Siriusmo's melodic remix of "Shooting Stars". The peace is then broken by the hard hitting tones of Fake Blood's remix of "Restless". I believe this mix displayed the true nature of this kind of techno: while it is melodic and even soft sounding at times, its natural dissonance sets it apart from other mainstream genres. In conclusion, I'd say the first mix is just like computer keyboards (see dirt [disambiguation]); yes, they are quite dirty, but we've been around it enough to just look past its dirtiness.
Ahh Filth, it's just disgusting. Just listen to how low the bass is in the first track, you can almost not hear it! In fact, unless you are an audiophile and have invested in some good subs, you couldn't even hear the bass because it was wobbling at a floor rolling 14Hz. 14Hz! Thats sub-bass, and thats just disgusting. The purpose of this mix was to showcase wobbly fidget house at its best and get all of you fiends your wobble fix.
Hope you enjoy them, and please leave comments and critique, it really helps. Thanks and stay tuned for another great mix!

March 2010 Exclusive Mix
Let's feel the bass roll off like slime with a new mix! This one's going to be dirty with fast, wobbly and heavy basslines in every song. I know you'll get tired, so I kindly threw in a slow dubstep song so you can cool off. Unfortunately, this happens to be one of the heaviest songs I've heard in a while, compliments of Vaski. I haven't quite worked out all the quirks yet, but this mix is guarantee to be a real banger that will be a must have for parties. Look forward to seeing some great tracks from old favorites like Herve, Jack Beats, Drop The Lime, Mightyfools, and much more. With a little luck, I might even be able to deliver a massive new track from Sound of Stereo, along with a brilliant track from a special surprise, up and coming artist. Thanks for checking out the blog and keeping up to date!

New Gear and a new Direction

Well, I guess you can say I had my epiphany. By this I mean that I was introduced to the theory of "smart mixing".
Smart mixing is the entire concept behind mixing, when one track is cued and ready to be introduced, certain things must happen to ensure a smooth transition. These things include adjusting certain bands in the equalizer so that everyone else doesn't hear a mess of noise. Unfortunately, as you move from mixing two tracks exclusively, to mixing 4 tracks, midi clips, loops and effects all at once, you tend to run out of arms.
Fortunately there is an answer to this problem! For myself, this means using Traktor Pro, a digital mixing program, alongside Ableton Live, arguably one of the most powerful pieces of audio software around. Simply put, I am still mixing with my old BCD3000 through Traktor Pro, but now I route that output through Ableton Live, where I can use a myriad of effects alongside a grid of my very own midi clips, loops, and sounds to add some kick and complexity to the mix. All of this triggering and control in Ableton is now possible with my new Novation Launchpad.
So what does this mean to you? Well, hopefully you can enjoy some more complicated and tasteful mixing. Having said that what I am about to say might disappoint some. From now on, all mixes will be exclusively Dubstep/Fidget House/UK Grime. The only exception to this will only be at parties and whatnot when I am playing live, I'll still play all the stuff you want to hear outside of the constraints of the said genres.
